One of the most appreciated features of PHP is the ability to create and manipulate graphical images using the GD extension functions. This extension comes with all PHP distributions, so everybody can use it. You can load and save images in several formats and process them in a way that is convenient to your PHP applications.
I’m way behind on my book reviews. I’ve got a stack that’s still knee-high and I know that there are more on the way. So let’s pop one off the stack and take a peek into it shall we? This time it’s “Building Your Own AJAX Web Applications” by Matthew Eernisse and published by SitePoint.
IBM has done it again. Their Developerworks site has published a 2 part textbook primer on getting started with AJAX from the perspective of a PHP developer. Written by Sean Kelly (Part 1) and Mike Britton (Part 2) of ID Society, these 2 articles introduce you to the magical, buzz-word laden world of AJAX. (The articles aren’t buzz-word laden but the landscape is.)

Google will now process merchant transactions for free through the end of 2007. That’s 13 months of free transaction processing, but not everyone thinks it’s a great idea (PayPal). I first found out about the change in USA Today, the most read newspaper in America, in an article titled “Google offer takes on PayPal.” The Official Google Checkout Blog also wrote about the change.
